CBD oils are available in a variety of strengths ranging from 200mg to 3000mg per bottle. Recommended use requires the liquid extract to be placed under the tongue for quick absorption. CBD tinctures include dropper applicators allowing for easy and accurate dosing.

Cannabidiol, better known as CBD, is a compound derived from the hemp plant. Consumers can take a few drops under the tongue or add it to smoothies, oatmeal, and mix into creams and lotions. Hemp oils come in a variety of flavors, serving sizes, and with or without additional compounds.

What is CBD oil?

The compound is removed from the hemp using a CO2 extraction process that strips the CBD from the plant matter without leaving behind solvent residues in the products. CO2 extraction uses pressure and freezing temperatures to extract plant botanicals and is safe and also used for processing many essential oils.

Hemp oil is made by infusing the CBD and other compounds extracted from the plant with a carrier oil that the body easily digests. The most common is MCT or medium-chain triglycerides, which are found in coconut oil and palm kernel oil.

Types of CBD oil

Choose between full-spectrum and broad-spectrum products.

Full-spectrum oil contains all hemp compounds, including additional cannabinoids, such as cannabigerol (CBG), cannabichromene (CBC), and a small quantity of tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV). They also contain .3% THC. Other active molecules in full-spectrum hemp oil include various terpenes, vitamins A, C, and E, magnesium, zinc, iron, and essential fatty acids.

The broad-spectrum oil has all the compounds found in the full-spectrum, except for THC.

Hemp oil comes unflavored and is available in natural flavors, such as cinnamint, vanilla mint, pomegranate tea, and lemon.

How to use CBD oil?

You can take CBD oil as a stand-alone product by making a serving size under the tongue. The sublingual method allows the hemp to absorb into the blood vessels and bypass digestion for a faster-onset than oral ingestion. If you don’t like the taste of an unflavored oil, you can wash it down with something more pleasant instead of allowing it to absorb under your tongue, which can take a minute or two.

The standard oral method, whether you wash it down or mix it with your favorite smoothie, takes 45 to 90 minutes to work.
